Antonio J Espinosa,
Chief Executive Officer & President
Antonio J Espinosa is a senior operating executive with expertise in global field operations. His interests include efforts in IoT, B2B SaaS Enterprise, mobile applications, and security software systems. He has served as Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer & President, Vice President and Managing Director of divisions for both public and private firms.
Antonio has a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Electrical Engineering degrees from the University of California at Davis. He also has Master of Business from the UC Davis Graduate School of Management. Antonio completed his academics with an Executive Management degree from Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
He was born of Spanish heritage in California and is fluent in English and Spanish. He has traveled and led business operations in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Antonio loves anything to do with sports, photography, and the the outdoors – especially camping, backpacking, and fishing.
Tatsuya Kato, Midokura Chairman of the Board & co-founder
Tatsuya leads business development at Midokura, where he leverages his decades of experience with startups and technology, including extensive (human) networks in the Japanese IT industry.
Tatsuya has a proven track record in top management positions at Japanese public IT service and mobile internet companies, as well as VC fund management with investments in internet and software sectors.
He served as committee member of multiple Japanese government organizations and several startups. Tatsuya is director of Royal Gate, Shift, Millmo, Movad Japan, and boox.
Tatsuya graduated from Kyoto University with a major in Engineering. He played on the university’s football team as a part of two national championship teams.
Dan Mihai Dumitriu, Chief of Product Strategy & Co-founder
Dan is responsible for the technical innovation and development of designing, building and operating Midokura technology.
Prior to founding Midokura, Dan served as Chief Architect at Ballista Securities, a New York City ATS offering an electronic block trading system for options. Dan has also served as Senior Researcher at NGI Group, Technical Lead at Amazon.com, Researcher at Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, Senior Researcher at Sony Electronics, and Technical Lead at Reliable Network Solutions.
Dan holds a Master of Engineering and a Bachelor of Arts, both in Computer Science, from Cornell University. He is a co-author of numerous research papers, holds several patents in the field of distributed computing, and is an expert in cloud computing technology.
Allen Miner, founder/General Partner of SunBridge Partners, founder/CEO of SunBridge Corporation
Allen has significant experience in Internet, enterprise and open-source software, entrepreneurship, and international technology transfer. Allen has been actively involved in each of the firm’s investments resulting in numerous successful IPOs, including Salesforce.com, MacroMill, ITMedia and G-Mode, among others. Allen is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Salesforce Japan.
Allen created SunBridge Corporation in 1999. As SunBridge CEO, he aims to create a dynamic, collaborative environment in which Japanese information technology startups develop at a globally competitive pace. SunBridge provides a variety of growth-enabling services to both startups and global enterprises. SunBridge services include early stage venture capital investment (with a portfolio of over 35 investments), software product and internet system co-development, sales and marketing strategy and execution, organizational strategy and recruiting.
Allen currently serves on the Boards of several SunBridge portfolio companies, as an advisor to government-affiliated organizations focused on innovation and entrepreneurship, and on the boards of NPO ETIC, a Tokyo organization promoting social entrepreneurship and providing entrepreneurial training for university students. He was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Japan Venture Capital Association upon its founding in 2002.
Robbert Van Renesse
Robbert Van Renesse is a Principal Research Scientist at the Department of Computer Science of Cornell University. He received his Ph.D. from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam in 1989 where he developed the Amoeba Distributed Operating System. Subsequently he worked on the Plan 9 operating system at AT&T Bell Laboratories.
Since joining Cornell in 1991 he has worked on fault-tolerant distributed systems, including replication protocols and large-scale peer-to-peer systems.
Robbert co-founded D.A.G. Labs that was acquired by FAST, and Reliable Network Solutions whose technology was acquired by Amazon.com. Other companies that use technology developed by Van Renesse include Microsoft, IBM, and Stratus. He has published over 150 papers in the field and developed 11 patents.
Willy Zwaenepoel received his B.S. from the University of Gent, Belgium in 1979, and his M.S. and Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1980 and 1984, respectively. In September 2002, he joined EPFL. He was Dean of the School of Computer and Communications Sciences at EPFL from 2002 to 2011. Before joining EPFL, Willy Zwaenepoel was on the faculty at Rice University, where he was the Karl F. Hasselmann Professor of Computer Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering.
He was elected Fellow of the IEEE in 1998, and Fellow of the ACM in 2000. In 2000 he received the Rice University Graduate Student Association Teaching and Mentoring Award. In 2007 he received the IEEE Tsutomu Kanai award. He was elected to the European Academy in 2009. He won best paper awards at SigComm 1984, OSDI 1999, Usenix 2000, Usenix 2006 and Eurosys 2007. He was program chair of OSDI in 1996 and Eurosys in 2006, and general chair of Mobisys in 2004. He was also an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems from 1998 to 2002.
Willy Zwaenepoel has worked in a variety of aspects of operating and distributed systems, including microkernels, fault tolerance, parallel scientific computing on clusters of workstations, clusters for web services, mobile computing, database replication and virtualization. He is most well known for his work on the Treadmarks distributed shared memory system, which was licensed to Intel and became the basis for Intel’s OpenMP cluster product.
Willy’s work on high-performance software for network I/O led to the creation of iMimic Networking, Inc, which he led from 2000 to 2005. His current interests include large-scale data stores and software testing. Most recently, his work in software testing led to the creation of BugBuster, a startup based in Lausanne.
